AWS simplifies Amazon SageMaker Studio sign-in for new users

Amazon has launched a simplified AWS SageMaker Studio sign-in experience, making it easier to access the platform used for building, training, and deploying machine learning models. This update allows new users to bypass the traditional, complex AWS account setup to start working almost immediately.

What is new with Amazon SageMaker Studio access?

  • Simplified sign-up: New customers can now create an account using existing identities, such as Google, GitHub, Apple, Amazon, or an email address.
  • Streamlined process: The sign-up flow is reduced to just 2–3 steps, removing the need for phone number verification and, for most customers, credit card entry.
  • Rapid deployment: Once signed up, the SageMaker Studio environment is automatically created in approximately 20 seconds.
  • Free credits: New users receive $100 in AWS Free Tier credits, with the opportunity to earn an additional $100.

Why does the new sign-in process matter?

For individual developers and small startup teams, the standard AWS account creation process—which typically requires verifying email addresses, providing contact information, verifying phone numbers, and entering payment details—can be a significant barrier to rapid experimentation. By removing these hurdles, Amazon allows developers to move from discovering a model to deploying it with much less friction.

How does the technical configuration work?

  • Pre-configured permissions: New environments include pre-set permissions for model customization, training, evaluation, and deployment. This means users do not need to manually create AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) roles to get started.
  • GPU instance access: Eligible accounts receive default access to G5, G6, and G4dn GPU instances for use in Studio notebooks, training jobs, and endpoint deployments.
  • Quota visibility: The instance selection menu within Studio now displays quota availability, allowing users to see which instance types are immediately available for their tasks.

How are the free credits and availability managed?

The $100 in AWS Free Tier credits are applied automatically to usage across SageMaker AI, including model training, customization, Studio notebooks, and endpoint deployments. Users can potentially earn up to $200 in total credits. These credits are valid for six months or until the balance is fully used, whichever occurs first. To prevent unexpected costs, resource usage stops automatically once the credit limit is reached.
