Is Amazon Prime Worth It in 2026? Prime Plans, Prices and Benefits by Country
Prime is $14.99/mo or $139/yr in the US. Compare 2026 Prime prices and benefits in the UK, Canada, Germany, Japan, Australia and India.

Amazon Prime costs $14.99 a month or $139 a year in the US in October 2026, and it is worth it if you order from Amazon more than two or three times a month and also use Prime Video. Elsewhere, Prime is far cheaper: £95 a year in the UK, C$99 in Canada, €89.90 in Germany, ¥5,900 in Japan, A$79 in Australia and ₹1,499 in India, where cheaper shopping-only tiers start at ₹399. The rest of this guide explains what each country's plan includes, how Prime Video ads changed the value, and who should skip Prime altogether.
How much is Amazon Prime in 2026?
Prices below are the standard monthly and annual plans shown on each country's official Amazon Prime page in October 2026. Discounted plans for students, young adults and people on government assistance are covered in each country section.

| United States | $14.99 | $139 | about $11.58 | Young Adults $7.49/mo; Prime Access $6.99/mo |

| Australia | A$9.99 | A$79 | about A$6.58 | None listed on the plan page |
| India | ₹299 | ₹1,499 | about ₹125 | Prime Lite ₹799/yr; Shopping Edition ₹399/yr |
US prices exclude sales tax, which Amazon adds at checkout. Every country listed offers a 30-day free trial for new members on its Prime page. Amazon can change prices at any time, so confirm on your local Amazon site before paying.
In every market, paying annually is cheaper than paying monthly for twelve months. In the US, twelve monthly payments come to $179.88, about $41 more than the $139 annual plan.
What do you get with Amazon Prime in the US?
The US plan is the most feature-heavy version of Prime. According to Amazon's US Prime page, membership includes:
- Free fast delivery on eligible items, including Same-Day and One-Day options in many areas.
- Prime Video, with ads by default (see below).
- Amazon Music for Prime members.
- Grocery perks: free Same-Day delivery on grocery orders of $25 or more in selected areas, and savings at Whole Foods Market.
- Prime Day and exclusive deals, including early access to sale events.
- Fuel savings at participating stations.
- Grubhub+ at no extra cost, which removes delivery fees on eligible orders.
- Prescription savings through Amazon Pharmacy.
Prime for Young Adults and Prime Access
Two discounted US plans cut the price roughly in half:
- Prime for Young Adults is $7.49 a month after a six-month trial, for people aged 18 to 24.
- Prime Access is $6.99 a month for people who receive eligible government assistance.
Does Amazon Prime Video have ads now?
Yes. Since early 2024, Prime Video in the US shows ads unless you pay extra, and Amazon has since raised the price of removing them.
In March 2026 Amazon renamed its ad-free add-on Prime Video Ultra and, from 10 April 2026, raised it from $2.99 to $4.99 a month in the US, according to reporting by 9to5Mac, Tom's Guide and ConsumerAffairs. The same reports say:
- An annual Ultra plan costs $45.99.
- Ultra adds 4K/UHD streaming, Dolby Atmos, up to five simultaneous streams and up to 100 downloads.
- Standard Prime Video stays included with Prime, with ads; outlets differ on its exact stream and download limits.
- Ultra launched in the US first.
So the real cost of ad-free Prime in the US is $139 plus $45.99, or $184.99 a year, if you pay both annually. That matters when you compare Prime with Netflix or Disney+ alone.

Amazon.ca lists Prime at C$9.99 a month or C$99 a year, plus tax. Prime for Students and 19–24 year-olds is C$4.99 a month after a six-month trial. Canadian members also get free DashPass from DoorDash, which removes delivery fees on eligible orders, according to the Amazon.ca Prime page.
Germany

How much is Amazon Prime in Japan and Australia?

Australia
Amazon.com.au lists Prime at A$9.99 a month or A$79 a year. Amazon notes that Prime free delivery excludes some remote areas, which is worth checking if you live outside a major city.
How much is Amazon Prime in India?
India is the only major market with three Prime tiers. Amazon.in shows:
| Plan | Price | Billing | What it's for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prime Shopping Edition | ₹399 (shown against a struck-through ₹499) | Yearly | Shipping and shopping benefits only |
| Prime Lite | ₹799 | Yearly | Shopping benefits plus Prime Video with ads |
| Prime (annual) | ₹1,499 | Yearly | Full shopping and entertainment benefits |
| Prime (monthly) | ₹299 | Monthly | Same benefits as annual Prime |
Amazon confirmed the three-tier structure in its May 2026 Prime Day announcement.
What each Indian plan includes
Prime Shopping Edition (₹399/year) is tailored, in Amazon's words, for customers who only want shipping and shopping benefits. It has no Prime Video or Amazon Music.
Prime Lite (₹799/year) adds Prime Video. According to a third-party breakdown of the Amazon.in plans page (Zoutons), Lite's Prime Video comes with ads, on one device at a time, in HD (720p) rather than 4K. Lite does not include Amazon Music, Prime Reading or gaming, and you cannot buy the ad-free add-on without upgrading.
Full Prime (₹1,499/year or ₹299/month) includes, per the same breakdown and the Amazon.in plan page:
- Prime Video on up to five devices including two TVs, up to 4K, with ad-free viewing available at extra cost.
- Amazon Music (100 million songs, according to Amazon.in).
- Prime Reading – free Kindle ebooks.
- Amazon Luna PC games.
- All delivery and shopping benefits.
From Amazon's Prime Day 2026 India announcement, Prime benefits include free unlimited Same-Day delivery on 10 lakh products, Next-Day delivery on 40 lakh products, 4-hour delivery on more than 40,000 products, exclusive Amazon Now offers and 5% cashback with the Amazon Pay ICICI Bank credit card. Amazon does not break down which apply to each tier, so check eligibility for your pin code.
Alexa+ and Prime in India
Amazon launched Alexa+ in India on 16 September 2026, as reported by TechCrunch and Digit. It is free to everyone during Early Access. Afterwards, Amazon says Alexa+ stays free for full Prime members, while Prime Lite, Shopping Edition and non-Prime users would pay ₹2,000 a month. For households that use Alexa daily, this makes full Prime the obvious tier.
Is the monthly plan worth it in India?
Only for short-term use. Twelve payments of ₹299 add up to ₹3,588, about ₹2,089 more than the ₹1,499 annual plan. The monthly plan suits one festive sale season or one series binge.
Is Amazon Prime worth it?
Prime is worth it when you would use at least two of its big benefits: shipping and video. A simple test by country:
In the US, Prime at $139 pays off if you place roughly two or more Amazon orders a month that would otherwise miss free shipping, and you watch Prime Video. Add-ons like Grubhub+, grocery delivery and Amazon Music push the value higher for heavy users. If you mainly want ad-free streaming, budget for Ultra on top.
In the UK, Canada, Germany and Australia, Prime costs well under $100 a year in local terms, so even moderate shoppers who watch some Prime Video tend to break even. Canadians who order food delivery get extra value from DashPass.
In Japan, at ¥5,900 a year, Prime is cheap enough that frequent online shoppers rarely regret it.
In India, choose by usage:
- Full Prime (₹1,499) if you shop several times a month, watch Prime Video on a TV, use Amazon Music or plan to use Alexa+.
- Prime Lite (₹799) if you want shopping benefits and are happy with ads, one screen and HD.
- Shopping Edition (₹399) if you only want fast free delivery and deals.
Skip Prime anywhere if you order only occasionally and can meet the free-shipping threshold, or already pay for several streaming services you prefer.
Editor's tip: Before you pay, check whether a phone plan, credit card or streaming bundle already includes Prime or Prime Video. Bundles are common in India and some other markets, and it is easy to end up paying twice.

How to join, change or cancel Prime
To join: go to your country's Prime page (for example amazon.com/amazonprime or amazon.co.uk/amazonprime), choose monthly or annual, and start the free trial if offered. Prime renews automatically when the trial ends.
To switch plans: in most countries you can move between monthly and annual in Your Account → Prime Membership. In India, Amazon's FAQ says you can upgrade from Shopping Edition to Prime Lite or Prime, and from Prime Lite to Prime, with upgrade pricing shown at checkout.
To cancel: open Your Account → Prime Membership and choose to end your membership. Refund eligibility depends on whether you have used benefits since your last charge; Amazon explains the terms on its local help pages.
Common Prime mistakes to avoid
- Paying monthly for a full year. It costs about $41 more in the US and ₹2,089 more in India than paying annually.
- Assuming Prime Video is ad-free. In the US it is not, unless you add Ultra.
- Forgetting the trial auto-renews. Set a reminder a few days before it ends.
- Ignoring discount plans. Students, 18–24 year-olds and, in the US, people on eligible assistance pay about half.
- Expecting the same delivery speed everywhere. Same-Day and next-day options depend on your postcode and the item.
Editor's tip: Check the Prime Membership page in your account a week before renewal. It shows the renewal date and the price you will be charged, so you can switch plans first.
